Shin-Aomori is a multi-level railway interchange in Aomori, Japan, connecting local and high-speed trains. The three island platforms and six tracks sit on elevated levels above street grade.
The facility opened in November 1986 under Japanese National Railways and transferred to East Japan Railway Company after privatization in April 1987. It has served since its founding as a major junction between the main island and northern Hokkaido.
The indoor market area sells regional specialties from the prefecture, including different apple varieties and locally produced sake. Travelers often use the waiting areas for a short break before continuing their journey to Hokkaido or back to southern regions.
Travelers will find ticket machines and staffed counters in the main hall, along with coin lockers at both exits. Buses to Aomori city and surrounding areas depart from the south and east exits.
The facility marks the northern terminus of the Tohoku Shinkansen line from Tokyo and the starting point of the Hokkaido Shinkansen route. This connection enables through high-speed journeys between the main island of Honshu and the northern island of Hokkaido.
