SK Olympic Handball Gymnasium, arena
The SK Olympic Handball Gymnasium is an indoor arena in Olympic Park in the Bangi-dong neighborhood of Seoul, designed specifically for handball. The seating wraps around the court and offers clear sightlines from every position, making it a comfortable venue to watch a match.
The hall was built between 1984 and 1986 and served as the fencing venue during the 1988 Olympic Games. After a major renovation completed in 2011, it was converted into a dedicated handball arena and has been home to professional teams ever since.
The SK in the name refers to the professional handball club that calls this arena home and gives it its current identity. On match days, the hall fills with passionate fans, reflecting how popular handball is as a spectator sport in South Korea.
The arena sits inside Olympic Park, which is easy to reach by subway and has several entrances spread around its perimeter. On match days it is worth arriving early, as the area around the park fills up quickly before kick-off.
The building was originally designed as a fencing hall and only became a handball venue after a full interior overhaul, which is a relatively rare transformation for an Olympic facility.
