Olympic Park, Sports and recreation park in Songpa District, South Korea
Olympic Park is a sports and recreation park in Seoul that covers several zones with sports facilities, cultural venues, and green spaces. Paved paths and cycling routes connect these areas and allow easy access to all parts of the grounds.
The grounds once held the Mongchontoseong Fortress from the Baekje period, whose ancient structures were folded into the modern layout. The site was built for the 1988 Olympics and blends historical remains with contemporary facilities.
The name comes from the Olympics that Seoul hosted in 1988, and today locals use the grounds for sports, picnics, and concerts. Many arrive early in the morning to jog or visit the outdoor stage during weekend events.
Bicycles can be rented onsite, and access is available through Olympic Park Station on Line 5 or Mongchontoseong Station on Line 8. The paths are flat and suitable for wheelchairs or strollers, with seating and restrooms located throughout the grounds.
The World Peace Gate houses a flame from the 1988 Paralympics that burns continuously. The gate's architecture uses symbols from different cultures to represent unity across borders.
