Pribalkhash State Nature Sanctuary

Pribalkhash State Nature Sanctuary consists of two main sections: the Pribalkhashsky area and the Ile River Delta, covering around 415,000 hectares. The terrain includes grasslands, wetlands, and water bodies that support diverse plant and animal life.

The sanctuary received official protection status in 2018 through a government decree. This designation marked Kazakhstan's commitment to safeguarding the region's diverse ecosystems for the long term.

Local people in the area practice traditional fishing and hunting methods that have been part of daily life for generations. Visitors can observe these everyday activities and see how communities coexist with the natural surroundings.

Access to the sanctuary is only available through guided tours that follow established trails to protect sensitive zones. It is best to check on current access conditions before visiting and bring appropriate clothing for changing weather.

The Ile River Delta is one of the last intact river delta systems in Central Asia and provides critical habitats for rare water birds and migratory species. This location serves as a vital stopover point for birds traveling between northern and southern regions.
