Akkar Governorate, Administrative division in northern Lebanon.
Akkar Governorate is an administrative region in northern Lebanon that stretches from the Mediterranean coast to mountainous terrain inland. The area includes agricultural plains, forested zones, and numerous towns and villages.
The region has roots in ancient times and was historically an important center for trade and settlement. The archaeological site of Arqa held significance as a place of considerable human activity from classical antiquity.
The region is home to Sunni Muslims, Greek Orthodox Christians, Maronite Catholics, and Alawites who maintain their own customs and celebrations. In the villages and towns, you can observe these communities living alongside one another, each with their own places of worship and local traditions.
The city of Halba serves as the administrative center with government offices for the entire district. The region is accessible by car, and most towns are easy to reach along main roads.
The western coastal plain is Lebanon's second largest agricultural zone, where olives, vegetables, and fruits grow year-round. This fertile area plays a major role in local farming and the regional economy.
