Ségou Region, Administrative region in south-central Mali

The Ségou Region spans 64,821 square kilometers alongside the Niger River, containing 2,166 villages across seven administrative districts and 118 communes.

The region formed part of the Bambara Empire during the 18th century before falling under Toucouleur control in 1861 and French administration in the 1890s.

The population includes Bambara farmers, Bozo fishermen, Soninke traders, Malinké craftsmen, and Toucouleur herders, each contributing distinct traditions to regional life.

The Office du Niger irrigation system, established in 1932, enables agricultural production of rice, cotton, sugar, millet, peanuts, cassava, and beans.

The region experiences two distinct seasons with 513 millimeters annual rainfall, supporting both traditional farming methods and modern agricultural initiatives.
