Koulikoro Region

The Koulikoro Region spans 90,120 square kilometers along the Niger River, featuring diverse landscapes from sandy plains to sandstone plateaus reaching 600 meters.

The region holds strategic importance as a former territory of multiple empires, including the Ghana Empire, Sosso Empire, and Mali Empire through different centuries.

The Bambara people form the largest ethnic group in the region, maintaining traditional practices through puppet theater performances and griot storytelling traditions.

The region functions as the terminus point for the Dakar-Niger railway and contains a major river port that facilitates trade throughout western Africa.

Koulikoro's agricultural zones transition from Sudan-type cultivation in the south to Sahelian farming methods in the north, producing millet, sorghum, and cotton.
