Sharga Nature Reserve

The nature reserve spans 390,071 hectares across two sections, including the Sharga gobi section and territories from five different administrative regions.

The State Ikh Khural established this conservation area in 1993 to protect endangered saiga antelope populations in western Mongolia.

The reserve incorporates territories where nomadic herders maintain traditional practices while coexisting with conservation efforts in the region.

Travelers need to arrange transportation from Ulaanbaatar and should bring essential supplies due to limited facilities in this remote location.

The reserve contains specific valleys where blacktail deer, snow leopards, and various carnivorous birds including eagles and vultures establish their habitats.
