Chiapas Bridge, Road bridge in Tecpatán, Mexico

The Chiapas Bridge extends 1,208 meters across the Nezahualcoyotl Dam, featuring eight supports and seven pillars constructed with orthotropic steel materials.

The bridge construction began in 2002 and finished fourteen months later, receiving recognition as Mexico's top infrastructure project in 2004.

The bridge connects communities near the El Ocote Biosphere Reserve, where Tzotzil people maintain their traditions while benefiting from increased regional connectivity.

The structure reduces travel time from Mexico City to Tuxtla Gutiérrez by 3.5 hours, shortening the distance by over 100 kilometers.

The bridge incorporates 82 fiber optic sensors powered by solar panels, monitoring structural health through temperature and strain measurements.
