Ad Dhahirah Governorate is an administrative region in northwestern Oman, stretching across diverse terrain with mountains, valleys, and desert landscapes. Ibri serves as the administrative center and main transportation hub for the area.
The region was reorganized as a separate administrative unit in 2011, having previously included larger territories like Al Buraymi. This restructuring marked a significant change in the Sultanate's territorial divisions.
Traditional markets in the region show how residents exchange local products and handicrafts in daily trade. These souks reflect the close connection between people and their surrounding landscapes.
The region consists of three provinces - Ibri, Yanqul, and Dhank - with Ibri being the best starting point for visitors. Those traveling by car or public transport will find Ibri functions as the main transportation hub and offers good connections.
The Yibal oil field, discovered in 1968, ranks among the largest oil reserves in the country and lies within this region's boundaries. This discovery became a driving force behind the area's economic development.
