Herăstrău Park, Public park in northern Bucharest, Romania.
Herăstrău Park is an urban park in northern Bucharest that covers 187 hectares and includes a central lake of 80 hectares. Paths wind through gardens and green spaces, passing sports facilities and open lawns down to the shoreline.
The grounds were transformed from marshland into a public park starting in 1936, with the lake formed by reshaping the earlier wetland area. After World War Two, more facilities and monuments were added, shaping how the park appears today.
The name comes from the former Herăstrău Lake that once covered this area before the park was created. Locals often gather near the water for picnics or to visit the many sculptures and memorials scattered across the grounds.
The park is open year-round and easy to reach on foot or by public transport. Paths are mostly flat and suitable for wheelchairs and strollers, although some sections near the waterfront may be slightly uneven.
A Japanese Garden within the park features cherry blossoms and weeping acacia trees that attract many visitors in spring. In another area, the Island of Roses showcases seasonal flower exhibitions with changing varieties and colors.

Romania encompasses historic towns where medieval squares, Orthodox churches, and royal palaces are found. Bucharest, the capital, hosts the Parliament Palace and religious buildings like the 18th-century Stavropoleos Church. In Transylvania, Brașov preserves its 14th-century city walls, and Sibiu features its cobbled streets lined with old houses. Further north, Bukovina contains Orthodox monasteries adorned with Renaissance exterior frescoes. The Romanian territory also offers mountain landscapes and diverse natural sites. The Transfăgărășan road crosses the Carpathians at over 2000 meters altitude, linking two historic regions. Bran Castle and Peles Castle, perched in the mountains, showcase defensive and royal architecture. The saline lakes of Ocna Sibiului and thermal centers like Therme București highlight the country's natural resources. The Danube Delta completes this collection of destinations to explore.
