Trenčín Region, Administrative region in northwestern Slovakia
The Trenčín Region is an administrative area in northwestern Slovakia covering approximately 4,500 square kilometers (1,700 square miles) between the White Carpathians and Strážov Mountains. The Váh River runs through nine districts that include major cities such as Trenčín, Prievidza, Považská Bystrica, and Partizánske.
This administrative region was established in 1996 as part of Slovakia's reorganization into eight separate divisions. It was created by combining territories that had previously belonged to different administrative units.
The region is home to thermal spas, medieval castles, and industrial towns that shape how people spend their time and gather together. These places reflect how the past and present blend into the daily rhythm of local life.
The region is well connected by roads and railway lines, with Trenčín and Prievidza serving as main hubs for entry and travel. The landscape is hilly and distances between towns can vary, so planning travel time between stops helps with organizing visits.
Beneath Trenčín Castle lies a Roman stone inscription recording the presence of ancient soldiers from a legion stationed there. This carving represents the northernmost known Latin inscription beyond the Danube and reveals how far Roman influence extended into this territory.
