African Renaissance Monument, Colossal bronze statue in Ouakam, Senegal

The African Renaissance Monument rises 52 meters above the Atlantic Ocean atop one of the Deux Mamelles hills near Dakar.

Inaugurated in 2010 to mark 50 years of Senegal's independence, the monument reflects the nation's emergence from colonial rule under French administration.

The monument depicts a family group with a man carrying a child while holding a woman, representing the forward movement of the African continent.

Visitors can access the interior of the monument and use an elevator to reach observation points offering views across Dakar and the Atlantic Ocean.

North Korean artists from Mansudae Overseas Projects constructed this statue, making it the tallest bronze sculpture in Africa.
