Black Sea Region

The Black Sea Region extends along the northern coast of Turkey, covering 141,000 square kilometers with steep mountains and dense forests meeting the sea.

The geographical isolation created by the Pontus Mountains influenced the development of distinct settlements along the coast, separate from inland Anatolia through centuries.

The region contains multiple ethnic communities including Laz and Hemsin groups, each maintaining their traditions while contributing to the agricultural practices of tea and hazelnut cultivation.

The area between Zonguldak and Rize contains the main population centers, connected by coastal roads that provide access to fishing ports and agricultural zones.

This northern territory produces all of Turkey's tea and supplies 70% of the world's hazelnuts, thriving in the region's year-round humid climate.
