Lake Eğirdir, Fourth largest lake in Isparta Province, Turkey
Lake Eğirdir is a large inland body of water in Isparta Province that spreads between the Sultan and Karakuş mountains. Two connected islands, Can Ada and Yeşil Ada, sit within its waters and add to the lake's geography.
The shore held ancient settlements such as Akroterion, Parlaos, Malos, and Prostanna, with archaeological evidence remaining in the region. Coins discovered there showed ships from the city of Parlaos, pointing to past trade and prosperity around the water.
The lake's name shifted from Eğridir to Eğirdir during the 1980s to carry meanings linked to spinning and flowers instead of the original sense of 'crooked'. Local residents use this newer name to reflect their connection to the place and its character.
The lake shore is reachable through Süleyman Demirel Airport in Isparta, with regular buses connecting the city to various points along the water. Renting a car helps when you want to visit different spots and stop at the shoreline at your own pace.
The water supports farming and drinking supplies across a broad region while hosting over a hundred bird types and many plant kinds. This dual role as both a resource and a natural space makes the lake important to people living nearby.
