Kavşak Bendi Dam, Hydroelectric power station and gravity dam in Adana Province, Turkey
Kavşak Bendi is a hydroelectric facility and gravity dam on the Seyhan River in Adana Province. The structure spans 186 meters across the riverbed and rises 88 meters high, with water channeled downstream to power generation turbines.
Construction started in 2008 and the first generator came online in 2013, with all units operational by April 2014. The project was part of Turkey's expansion of hydroelectric power along major river systems.
The facility represents Turkey's dedication to renewable energy development, contributing to the nation's power independence through local engineering and construction expertise.
Water flows through a 2.5-kilometer downstream channel to three turbines that generate power for the region. Note that this is an active industrial facility, so visitor access may be limited or require special arrangements.
The reservoir holds 30 million cubic meters of water and the spillway can release up to 5,053 cubic meters per second. This large spillway capacity ensures reliable river flow control and flood protection for downstream communities.
