Gözne Castle, Medieval fortress in Mersin Province, Turkey.
Gözne Castle is a medieval fortress in the Toros Mountains comprising two separate fortified structures with rectangular and hexagonal designs. The site sits at an elevation of about 1,120 meters (3,675 feet) and integrates both buildings into a unified defensive system.
The castle was built between the 12th and 14th centuries during the Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia. It served to protect strategic trade routes connecting the Mediterranean coast with inland fortifications.
The construction displays Armenian architectural techniques, incorporating vaulted halls, defensive towers, narrow windows, and specialized fighting platforms in its design.
Visitors will find a designated picnic area on the northern side of the grounds. Access to the interior spaces is restricted by metal grates, so exploring the buildings inside is limited.
The western chamber contains fifteen porches distributed across multiple facades and supported by projecting corbels. These overhanging elements likely served as defensive positions for fighters on the walls.
