Beyhan I Dam

Beyhan I Dam is a concrete gravity dam in eastern Turkey that captures water and converts it to electricity. The facility uses three large turbines to channel power into Turkey's national grid system.

Construction began in 2011 and finished in early 2015 as a joint effort by two private builders. This project marked a turning point in how Turkey approached hydroelectric infrastructure development.

This facility represents Turkey's shift toward private-sector involvement in hydroelectric development and energy independence. The dam's presence shapes how the local landscape and its water resources are perceived and used today.

The site sits in a mountainous region and is best reached by well-maintained roads. Keep in mind that this is an active industrial facility where access restrictions may apply.

The facility operates with one of the steepest water drops among Turkish power stations, making it highly efficient. This technical feature allows it to generate substantial electricity from the Munzur River's flow.
