Xitun District, Administrative district in Taichung, Taiwan
Xitun District is an administrative area in Taichung that combines modern developments, shopping centers, two major universities, and green spaces. The area spans about 40 square kilometers with a mix of newer infrastructure and older residential neighborhoods.
The area was originally inhabited by the Pazeh indigenous people before Han Chinese settlers arrived in 1701 and took over the land. This shift marked a major change in the region's population and how the land was used.
Major universities shape the district as centers of study and meeting places for young people. Traditional Taiwanese neighborhoods nearby maintain local markets and community shops that reflect daily life beyond campus areas.
Car drivers have access to National Freeway 1 and Provincial Highway 12, while buses serve many routes across the district. The Taichung Metro Green Line connects key locations and makes getting around without a car easier.
The area houses two important industrial parks: the Taichung Science Park and the Taichung Shuinan Economic Trade Park. This zone has become a center for technology industries and economic innovation.
