Lingya District, Administrative district in Kaohsiung City, Taiwan.
Lingya District is a neighborhood in central Kaohsiung that covers about 8 square kilometers at a low elevation near sea level. The area is divided into 69 villages and around 1,200 smaller neighborhoods, connected by several metro stations throughout the district.
The area was formed in 1952 from the merger of four older communities: Lingyaliao, Guotianzi, Lingdeguan, and Wukuaicuo. This unification created the current administrative structure and marks a turning point in Kaohsiung's urban development.
The district emerged from the merger of several communities and maintains traditional divisions that reflect its origins as a trade and fishing region. The names of its villages and neighborhoods tell the story of this maritime past and shape the character of the area today.
The district is easily reached by public transportation, especially through the Cultural Center and Sanduo Shopping District metro stations. The flat terrain makes the area simple to explore on foot or by bike.
Two national universities - National Sun Yat-sen University and National Kaohsiung Normal University - are located here, making the district a significant educational hub for the city. The strong academic presence shapes daily life and the local environment.
