Zhytomyr Oblast, Administrative region in northwestern Ukraine.
Zhytomyr Oblast is an administrative unit in the northwestern part of Ukraine and covers an area with forests, hills, and river systems. The region divides into four administrative districts, with the city of Zhytomyr serving as the administrative center.
The administrative unit emerged in the late 1930s when territories from neighboring regions were joined together. The new structure formed from areas that previously belonged to Vinnytsia and Kyiv, along with two border districts.
The sanctuary in Radomyshl displays icons from several centuries of religious art, showing how local painting traditions developed. The collections merge Orthodox spirituality with folk expressions that emerged across the region, reflecting the devotional practices of rural communities.
The four districts of Berdychiv, Zhytomyr, Korosten, and Zviahel divide the region into larger administrative units. Travelers will find central offices and transport hubs in the city of Zhytomyr for connections to neighboring regions.
Quarries across the territory extract granite in different shades and textures, used for construction projects both locally and abroad. These extraction sites shape parts of the landscape and provide an important income source for local communities.
