Kherson Raion, Administrative district in Kherson Oblast, Ukraine
Kherson Raion is an administrative district in Kherson Oblast covering roughly 3,841 square kilometers (1,483 square miles) of territory. It comprises the regional center of Kherson and nine additional municipalities distributed across the landscape along the Dnieper River.
This administrative district was established on July 19, 2020, as part of Ukraine's broader administrative reform process. The creation merged portions of the former Bilozerka and Oleshky raions together with Kherson Municipality into a single reorganized unit.
The district sits at a crossroads of historical trade routes where the Dnieper River has long shaped how communities connect and exchange goods. You can see this river-centered way of life reflected in how local settlements and neighborhoods are organized along the waterways.
The area is connected by diverse transportation options including Kherson International Airport, railway networks, and river ports along the Dnieper. Getting around the region and reaching different towns is possible through a mix of these air, rail, and water routes.
The area experienced dramatic upheaval in 2022 when military occupation lasted from March through November, causing significant movements of residents. This period reshaped the region's infrastructure and the way people live and work there today.
