Eastern Region

The Eastern Region of Uganda contains numerous districts including Bugiri, Busia, Iganga, and Kamuli, with its administrative center located in the city of Jinja.

Prior to Uganda's independence in 1962, the Eastern Region operated as a provincial territory under British colonial administration with direct oversight from a Provincial Commissioner.

Multiple ethnic communities inhabit the Eastern Region, including the Basoga, Bagisu, and Bakedi peoples, each maintaining their traditional governance structures and social customs.

The region functions through local government systems coordinated by the Uganda Local Governments Association, managing resources and services across its constituent districts.

With a population density of 226 persons per square kilometer, the Eastern Region encompasses 39,478 square kilometers and contains 32 administrative districts.
