Verbolten, Steel roller coaster in Busch Gardens, Williamsburg, US.
Verbolten is a steel coaster in Busch Gardens Williamsburg, Virginia, that runs along 864 meters of track and reaches a height of nearly 27 meters. The coaster features two launch sections with linear motors that propel riders first into an enclosed building and later across open track segments.
The coaster opened in 2012 and replaced the former Big Bad Wolf, which had operated for nearly three decades. The new design introduced a different ride experience based on enclosed sections and computer-controlled effects.
The ride draws on Black Forest legends, with design elements that connect to the European themed area of the park. Visitors pass through alpine scenery and forest motifs that unfold through lighting and sound during the journey.
Trains with 16 seats arranged in two rows allow for a fairly high capacity, so wait times tend to remain manageable. Riders should check height requirements and keep in mind that the coaster delivers both rapid accelerations and sudden directional changes.
Inside the building a random generator selects one of three possible storylines, so riders experience different scenarios on repeated trips. Each variation includes distinct projections and audio tracks that relate to different threats within the narrative.
