Wild Rider, Steel roller coaster at Six Flags Great Adventure, New Jersey, US
Wild Rider was a steel roller coaster located in the Enchanted Forest section of Six Flags Great Adventure, featuring single-rider cars that navigated sharp turns and sudden drops. The compact track design made efficient use of the forested space while delivering rapid, intense motion through tight curves.
Wild Rider opened in 1978 and replaced an earlier carnival ride called Big Fury that had occupied the same location. The coaster operated for only three years before being removed from the park in 1981.
The Wild Rider represented a significant addition to Six Flags Great Adventure's collection of thrill rides during the late 1970s entertainment expansion.
The ride experienced the most crowded conditions on weekends and during summer holiday periods when the park was busiest overall. Riders needed to meet safety requirements and were not allowed to carry loose items aboard.
The ride was manufactured using Schwarzkopf engineering and blended wild mouse elements with traditional steel coaster features in an unusual way for the era. This hybrid design allowed for aggressive movements in a minimal footprint.
