Eastern Shore of Virginia National Wildlife Refuge, Wildlife refuge at Northampton County, United States.
The refuge encompasses 1,200 acres of salt marshes, grasslands, pine forests, barrier islands, and both fresh and brackish water ponds along the Atlantic coast.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service established this protected area in 1984 to maintain a critical stopover point along the Atlantic Flyway migration route.
The refuge functions as an environmental education center where visitors learn about conservation through interactive exhibits and guided wildlife observation programs.
The Visitor Center opens from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on weekends, offering an indoor observation deck and twelve educational exhibits about local wildlife.
Each autumn, the refuge hosts millions of songbirds, monarch butterflies, and thousands of raptors during their southern migration across the Chesapeake Bay.
