Suffa RT-70 radio telescope

The Suffa RT-70 telescope features a 70-meter diameter antenna positioned at an elevation of 2,324 meters on the Suffa plateau in Uzbekistan.

Construction of this astronomical facility began in the late 1980s but halted during the Soviet Union dissolution, leaving the project incomplete until Russian involvement in 2008.

The telescope represents a significant scientific collaboration between Uzbekistan and Russia, forming part of the international network of RT-70 radio telescopes.

Located 200 kilometers southwest of Tashkent, the facility aims to conduct millimeter-wave band observations between 100 and 300 GHz for space research.

The telescope site remains at 50 percent completion, with scientists anticipating potential operational status between 2023 and 2028 for deep space communication.
