Parroquia La Dolorita, Parish district in eastern Caracas, Venezuela
Parroquia La Dolorita is a parish district located within Sucre Municipality in eastern Caracas, situated at approximately 900 meters above sea level. The area encompasses residential neighborhoods with a significant local population and serves as a residential hub for the eastern part of the city.
The area was originally part of the Hacienda Turumo estate until the early 20th century, when road construction began to open it up to development. This infrastructure expansion transformed the region from rural land into a residential neighborhood.
The parish takes its name from the Virgin of Sorrows, a figure whose spiritual significance shaped how this Venezuelan community understands itself. Her presence continues to influence local religious practices and community gatherings in the area.
The area connects to neighboring districts through major highways and provides local amenities for residents and visitors. It is located at higher elevation, which affects climate conditions and accessibility throughout the neighborhood.
After major flooding in the area, residents who had lost their homes settled here and built the neighborhood from scratch. The parish only gained access to piped drinking water years later, revealing how this community developed gradually over time.
