Nha Trang Air Base, air force base in Vietnam
Nha Trang Air Base is a large military airfield on the edge of the city in Khánh Hòa Province. The site features extended runways, taxiways, and old hangars that now stand mostly empty and overgrown with grass.
The facility was built in 1949 by the French and initially served as a training center for Vietnamese pilots. In the 1960s, the United States took over and operated it actively until 1975, when the Vietnamese army took control.
The airfield was a place of international military presence, first under French and later American command. Local people connect this location with stories of pilots and soldiers who worked and lived here during different periods.
The site is now closed to the public and not accessible without permission. Visitors should note that infrastructure is outdated and there are few official signs or guided tours available.
The base was known for psychological warfare operations where aircraft dropped leaflets and broadcast messages to persuade enemy forces to surrender. These unconventional missions saved many lives by avoiding direct combat.
