Long Sơn Pagoda, Buddhist temple in Nha Trang, Vietnam
Long Sơn is a Buddhist temple at the base of Trại Thuỷ mountain in Nha Trang, Vietnam, spreading across a forested hillside. The main buildings include a prayer hall with curved roofs, a three-tier ceremonial tower, and several side structures with red and gold trim.
Thích Ngộ Trí founded the temple in 1886 on a different hill, but a storm destroyed the building fourteen years later. The monastic community relocated to the current mountain in 1900 and rebuilt the halls and staircases over several decades.
The name means Dragon Mountain Pagoda, referring to the hilltop site where devotees light incense and pray facing the giant seated figure.
The staircase begins behind the main hall and winds through shaded sections with rest benches at mid-height. The reclining Buddha statue sits on a plateau just before the summit, while the seated figure marks the highest point.
A large mosaic made from glass shards and ceramic covers the outer wall of the main hall, showing scenes from the life of Buddha. The artists used broken plates and tiles from donated household items to create the pattern.
