Van Hanh Zen Monastery, Buddhist monastery in Da Lat, Vietnam.
Van Hanh Zen Monastery is a Buddhist monastery in Da Lat spread across 2 hectares featuring a 24-meter golden Buddha statue at its center. The grounds include meditation areas, a Main Hall, and ceremonial spaces arranged around water features and statues of various Bodhisattvas.
The monastery evolved from the Van Hanh Assembly with construction beginning in 1980 under Buddhist monk Thich Vien Thanh's direction. This founding established a new center for Buddhist practice in the region.
The complex displays traditional Buddhist architectural elements throughout its spaces. Visitors can observe the veneration of different Bodhisattvas within the meditation areas and ceremonial halls.
Visitors can reach the Main Hall through two different routes: a side gate with 61 steps or a lakeside entrance requiring 222 steps. Your choice of path depends on your fitness level and preferences.
The central Buddha statue is surrounded by nine dragons spraying water, creating a visually distinctive feature of the Main Hall. This water display is a rare design element not commonly found in other Buddhist monasteries.
