Truc Lam Temple, Buddhist temple on Phuong Hoang Hill, Da Lat, Vietnam.
Truc Lam Temple is a Buddhist monastery on Phuong Hoang Hill in Đà Lạt, Vietnam, located at an elevation of approximately 1300 meters. The site includes prayer halls, meditation rooms, residential quarters, and extensive pine forest surrounding the entire complex.
The temple was established in 1994 and carries forward Vietnamese Zen teachings rooted in the 13th century, when Emperor Tran Nhan Tong founded this tradition. The monastery thus connects ancient Buddhist philosophy with modern practice.
The main prayer hall displays a Buddha statue seated on a lotus flower, with two bodhisattvas representing wisdom and compassion on either side. This arrangement reflects core Buddhist teachings that visitors can see expressed in its traditional form.
Two paths lead to the temple: a direct route with approximately 60 steps or a longer path from nearby Tuyen Lam Lake with approximately 220 steps. Visitors should choose based on their fitness level and wear sturdy shoes for either route.
The monastery is distinctive for its separated residential structure where fifty monks and fifty nuns each occupy independent sections with their own prayer halls, meeting spaces, and dining areas. This arrangement reflects a particular approach to monastic community life.
