Hằng Nga guesthouse, Artistic guesthouse in Da Lat, Vietnam
Hằng Nga guesthouse is a five-story building in Đà Lạt featuring curved walls, twisted staircases, and animal-shaped structures that form an intricate network of interconnected spaces. The structure contains ten themed guest rooms, each with its own distinct architectural character and design details.
The building was designed in 1990 by architect Đặng Việt Nga as a break from traditional Vietnamese architectural styles. This experimental concrete design introduced a new interpretation of space and form to the region.
The guesthouse draws on nature as inspiration, with rooms named after animals and surrounded by organic sculptural forms throughout. Visitors notice how these animal themes appear in decorations and the flowing architectural elements as they move through the spaces.
The curved and winding rooms can feel disorienting, so take time to explore and use the animal-themed room names as orientation points. Commercial photography requires a permit, though personal photos for memories are generally welcome.
The entire building contains no straight lines or right angles, instead composed of melted-looking concrete formations throughout. This radically different construction approach makes every room feel completely unlike a conventional building.
