Sankhuwasabha

Sankhuwasabha is an administrative district in eastern Nepal that stretches across diverse terrain and elevation zones. The region encompasses valleys carved by rivers, mountain slopes, and high-altitude areas that shape the landscape in different ways.

The district was established as an administrative unit in the 1960s and has served as a regional center since then. Khandbari became the main governmental hub for managing local affairs and connections to the broader state structure.

The population distribution reveals a mix of ethnic groups, with Chhetri comprising 18.3%, Tamang 11%, Rai 8.1%, Kulung 6.2%, and Sherpa 5.8% of residents.

The terrain here is mountainous and changes significantly with elevation, so visitors should come prepared for varying weather and trail conditions. The best time to explore is during the drier months when paths are more accessible.

The region borders Tibetan territory to the north and sits at the gateway to major Himalayan highlands. This positioning makes it a transitional area where different landscapes and communities of the eastern Himalayan region meet and blend.
