Cho Polu

Cho Polu is a mountain summit in the Mahalangur Himal range, rising to about 6,735 meters with steep snow and ice walls. The peak sits surrounded by other major summits in the Himalayan chain.

Spanish climber Nil Bohigas achieved the first documented ascent in 1984 by climbing the technically demanding north face. This success opened the way for future attempts on the mountain.

The mountain sits in the Khumbu region, where Sherpa communities maintain strong ties to the surrounding peaks through their climbing practices and local knowledge. This connection shapes how people in the area relate to the high mountains around them.

Climbs to this peak demand specialized mountaineering gear, experienced guides, and strong physical preparation due to the extreme altitude. The mountain sits in a remote area that requires careful advance planning.

The mountain offers different climbing challenges on each of its faces, with only two known successful routes documented. The north face and the southwest ridge represent the two established pathways to the summit.
