Shambhala

Shambhala is a steel hypercoaster at PortAventura Park in Salou, Spain. The track runs over 1564 meters, includes five camelback hills, and reaches a top speed of 134 kilometers per hour.

Built by Bolliger & Mabillard, the ride opened in May 2012 and set European records at that time. It held the titles for tallest, fastest, and longest drop among hypercoasters on the continent when it debuted.

The coaster area interprets the theme of a hidden Himalayan realm, visible in the queue lines and station building. Dragon motifs and temple elements shape the surrounding design, creating a thematic connection within the park.

The coaster operates three trains with eight cars each, allowing up to 32 people to ride at once. Capacity reaches around 1680 visitors per hour, with wait times depending on the season.

The steel structure weighs a total of 1600 tonnes and requires foundations extending 18 meters deep for necessary stability. This technical foundation ensures the ride remains secure even at high speeds.
