Castellón, Administrative province in Valencian Community, Spain.
Castellón is an administrative province on the Spanish Mediterranean coast, extending from the sea to the mountainous interior of the Valencian Community. The province includes coastal towns with sandy beaches, agricultural plains in the center, and forested highlands to the west.
The territory belonged to the Kingdom of Valencia for centuries and developed through agriculture and Mediterranean trade. In the 20th century, the ceramic industry grew and transformed the economy of many inland towns.
The name derives from the provincial capital, whose medieval foundation on a plain shaped the designation. Along the coast and in the villages of the interior, people speak both Valencian and Spanish in daily life.
Most visitors arrive at the coast and reach mountain towns along country roads that pass through orange groves and vineyards. Those exploring the interior should allow travel time for winding routes and smaller villages without major infrastructure.
The Prime Meridian of Greenwich crosses several municipalities and is marked by monuments in places such as the capital and Almassora. Along this line, visitors can stand on both hemispheres of the Earth at the same time.
