רכס הבוסטר, Dormant volcano in Golan Heights, Israel
The Booster Ridge is a dormant volcano in the Golan Heights that stretches between Quneitra city and Mount Hermonit. It reaches approximately 1,050 meters in elevation and features two central hills that give the ridge its distinctive profile.
The area below the ridge earned the name Valley of Tears during a 1973 conflict due to intense tank battles between Israeli and Syrian forces. This battle defined the strategic importance of the ridge that remains relevant today.
The name comes from a Syrian water pumping station that operated in the area before 1967 to support local farming. Visitors today can still observe how this earlier use shaped the surrounding landscape.
The ridge is open to visitors and offers several walking routes suitable for different fitness levels. The best time to explore is during the cooler morning or late afternoon hours.
After a military base was removed, the ridge was fitted with wind turbines that now generate renewable energy for the region. This transformation shows how the former military site became a clean energy facility.
