Freistadt District

The Freistadt District encompasses 993.9 square kilometers of territory in northern Upper Austria, containing 27 municipalities and market towns.

The district emerged from administrative reforms following the 1848 revolutions in the Austrian Empire, establishing Freistadt as its capital and administrative center.

With a population density of 66 people per square kilometer, the district provides essential administrative services to 65,853 residents across its municipalities.

The district incorporates the medieval town of Freistadt, which features preserved fortification walls, towers, and gates constructed between 1363 and 1393.
