Dongzhou District, District in Fushun, China
Dongzhou District is one of four administrative districts that make up the city of Fushun, in the northeastern part of China. The area sits near a river and is flanked by hills, with a mix of residential streets, local markets, and mid-rise buildings.
The district was long tied to local industry, with factories that employed generations of workers and shaped the daily rhythms of the area. Over time, those industries gave way to other uses, and some former industrial sites became markets or residential areas.
The district is easily covered on foot or by bike, and public buses connect its different parts without much difficulty. The market areas and local squares are the best starting points to get a feel for how the neighborhood works day to day.
The name Dongzhou translates roughly to 'East Continent' in Chinese, a reference to the district's position in the eastern part of the city. This name still shapes how locals refer to the area in everyday speech.
