Qing Pu Prison

The prison extends over 300 mu of land and contains nine specialized units, accommodating between 5,000 and 6,000 inmates under the supervision of 300 officers.

The facility opened its doors on December 24, 1994, marking a new phase in the development of Shanghai's penal system during the modernization period of Chinese corrections.

The facility maintains educational partnerships with Shanghai Open University and teaches specialized crafts including jade sculpture, embroidery, and bamboo artistry to inmates.

Foreign male offenders from 40 different countries represent a substantial portion of the inmate population, with sentences typically exceeding seven years.

The prison follows a structured weekly schedule where inmates spend five days working, one day studying, and one day resting, under Shanghai Municipal Prison Administration.
