Silin Dam, Hydroelectric power station in Sinan County, Guizhou Province, China
Silin Dam is a hydroelectric power station on the Wu River built using roller-compacted concrete, transforming the river landscape with its massive structure. The facility extends horizontally across a considerable span while rising steeply from the valley, creating an imposing presence when viewed from the river.
Construction began in 2004, with water impoundment starting in 2008, marking a significant transformation for the Wu River region. By 2009, the project reached full operational capacity, permanently altering the hydrological patterns of the entire area.
The dam project required careful planning for population displacement, leading to the establishment of new communities in the surrounding Guizhou Province.
The site is accessible via walking trails that offer views from along the water level and from higher vantage points overlooking the structure. The best time to visit is during drier months when water levels are more stable and surrounding areas are more easily accessible.
The reservoir system maintains 184,000,000 cubic meters specifically dedicated to flood storage, protecting downstream communities during high water periods.
