Miaojiang Great Wall, Defensive wall in Fenghuang County, China.

The Miaojiang Great Wall is a defensive line running through southern China's landscape, made up of numerous watchtowers, blockhouses, and guard posts linked together. The structure follows the terrain and forms a connected defensive chain spanning a considerable distance.

Construction of this wall began in the mid-1500s and was completed over a century later, aimed at strengthening control over the mountainous southern region. The project was part of broader efforts to stabilize administrative boundaries in this part of China.

This fortification marks a boundary that shaped how different groups lived and moved through the region for centuries. Walking along it today, you can sense how deeply it influenced settlement patterns and local identity across the area.

Visiting requires good physical condition, as the route crosses hilly and mountainous terrain with difficult access to some sections. Wear sturdy footwear, bring plenty of water, and plan your visit during dry weather for the safest experience.

An old town called Huangsiqiao lies to the west and once served as the main military base for this southern defensive system. The settlement still shows traces of its military past in the way buildings and streets are arranged.
