Wujiang Viaduct, Expressway viaduct in Wujiangzhen, Zunyi County, China
The Wujiang Viaduct is an expressway bridge made of prestressed concrete that crosses the Wu River valley in Wujiangzhen, Zunyi County. It carries traffic on a single straightforward route above the steep terrain below.
The bridge was completed in 2008 and significantly improved the G75 Lanzhou-Haikou Expressway connection. Previously, vehicles had to take long detours over steep mountain roads.
The construction methods and design of Wujiang Viaduct reflect Chinese engineering practices in managing transportation through mountainous regions of Guizhou province.
Visitors can view the bridge from several vantage points at the valley floor or experience it from above while crossing. The best views of the entire structure come from the sides of the valley.
The bridge uses a special construction method with varying thicknesses of prestressed concrete sections that taper from the piers toward the center. This design allows for efficient load distribution across the full length.
