Site of Zunyi Conference, Historical conference site in Zunyi, China.
The Site of Zunyi Conference is a two-story building in northern Guizhou province, built in a traditional Chinese style with grey walls, wooden beams, and tiled roofs. The interior has been converted into a memorial space with exhibition rooms that document what took place here in 1935.
In January 1935, senior members of the Communist Party gathered in this building during the Long March to debate military leadership. The meeting marked Mao Zedong's rise to the top of the party and is seen as a turning point in the history of the People's Republic of China.
Inside the rooms, original documents, photographs, and objects from the 1930s are on display, giving a concrete sense of how party meetings were conducted during the Long March. Visitors can walk through the same spaces where decisions were debated and made.
The building is located in central Zunyi and easy to reach on foot from the main streets. Visitors who do not read Chinese should ask in advance about tours or audio guides in other languages, as availability may vary.
The building was originally the private home of a merchant and was not built for political gatherings. The conference took place here because Zunyi was under Red Army control for only a short period during the retreat, making the choice of location more circumstantial than planned.
