Stadttor, Office building in Düsseldorf, Germany.
The Stadttor comprises two slender towers connected by a glass atrium above a Rhine tunnel entrance. The structure rises roughly 75 meters and features a rhomboid-shaped floor plan distributed across 20 floors.
The building was completed in 1998 and served as the seat of North Rhine-Westphalia's State Chancellery from 1999 to 2017. This period established it as a key governmental hub for state administration.
The building occupies a central place in Düsseldorf's government quarter, where parliament and ministries cluster together. It shapes the appearance of a location where political decisions are made for the state.
The building is equipped with multiple elevators and houses retail shops and restaurants on the fourth floor. The expansive glass surfaces allow bright interiors and good navigation between the two towers.
This high-rise was Europe's first certified environmental building and uses double-glass facades and groundwater cooling. These innovative techniques were entirely new for buildings of this scale when it opened.
