WDR Studio Düsseldorf, Broadcasting studio in Medienhafen district, Düsseldorf, Germany.
WDR Studio Düsseldorf is a broadcasting facility in Medienhafen with a curved glass entrance hall and a facade combining natural stone plates with glass elements framed by mint-green strips. Production studios sit in the basement, while the upper floors contain office spaces visible through transparent walls.
Built between 1986 and 1991 according to designs by architects Christoph and Brigitte Parade, the structure reflected growing investments in modern media infrastructure at that time. Its completion marked a turning point for broadcasting production in Düsseldorf.
The eastern side features a large arched glass entrance that resembles the shape of a vintage radio receiver, linking the building's design to broadcasting traditions.
The building is easily accessible from Medienhafen and highly visible due to its distinctive facade, making it simple to spot from the street. The surrounding area has good pedestrian pathways and connects well to public transportation.
A distinctive slanted cut on the main facade creates an angular profile toward the street, giving the building an unexpected dynamic quality. Suspended staircases in open spaces connect different floor levels in an unconventional way.
