The Living Bridge

The Living Bridge is a modern steel footbridge crossing the harbor basin in Medienhafen, featuring a striking silver structure. Its surface integrates multi-story restaurant and event buildings that combine the walking experience with dining and social functions.

Completed in 2005, it emerged during the redevelopment of Medienhafen into a modern district. The design created a bridge between the harbor's working past and its contemporary use as a cultural and commercial destination.

The name refers to how people actually use it: restaurants and event spaces turn it into a social gathering place where visitors linger rather than simply cross. This blend of passage and destination has shaped daily life in the harbor district.

The area is easy to reach and offers level ground with clear orientation between restaurants and outdoor spaces. Expect busier periods during meal times and events, especially on weekends.

Built-in LED strips in the steps and white plastic cubes transform into an illuminated artwork at night. This nighttime glow creates an entirely different experience from daytime crossing.
