Hafenspitze Düsseldorf, Contemporary architectural ensemble in Medienhafen district, Düsseldorf, Germany.
Hafenspitze Düsseldorf is an architectural ensemble consisting of two 65-meter (213-foot) towers connected by a base structure in the Media Harbour district. The eastern tower contains a Hyatt hotel while the western tower houses office spaces, with public areas accessible between and around the structures.
The structure came from an architectural competition in 2001 that JSK Architekten won against seven international firms. Construction took place between December 2008 and November 2009, marking a key moment in the Media Harbour's transformation.
The complex serves as a gathering point in the Media Harbour where office workers, hotel guests, and visitors mix in the public spaces below. Events and casual meetings happen regularly in the plaza between the two towers.
The public plaza and areas surrounding the towers are freely accessible, offering clear views of the harbor and old town skyline. The nearby restaurants and cafes make it comfortable to spend time here at any hour of the day.
A hydraulically operated steel staircase at the ballroom can be hidden away when not in use, creating a hidden architectural detail. Between the towers sits a glass floor area that allows visitors to look down at the levels below.
