Colorium, Office building in Hamm, Germany
Colorium is an office building in Hamm with a striking glass exterior made of 2200 printed panels in shades of blue, orange, red, and green. The 17-story structure incorporates internal shading systems behind the colored panels to regulate temperature in the office spaces.
British architect Will Alsop completed the building in 2001, introducing a new architectural language to Hamm. The project marked a turning point in how office buildings were designed in the city.
The colorful glass exterior shows how contemporary architecture shapes workspace and city views. Visitors can observe how the panels filter light differently throughout the day and define the working environments behind them.
The building is easy to spot and visible from a distance because of its distinctive colored panels in daylight. Visitors can view the structure from various angles around the area or walk past it to see the facade details up close.
A glowing red box at the building's top illuminates the structure at night and makes it a visible landmark from many spots around the city. This nighttime lighting gives it a completely different presence than during the day.
